When Fostoria Glass closed in the 1980's, its remaining stock was sold off to a wholesaler. We purchased many elegant Fostoria crystal pieces from them for resale. This adapter is quite unique to the glass world.
This glass adapter was made in the 1980's by Fostoria Glass and sold as a giftware item. It was featured in a photo that appeared in the book Fostoria Tableware 1944-1986 and also in a mini catalog sales flyer along with the taper candlestick holder in the Virginia pattern. It was photographed with a glass Chimney Hurricane (#V105/469) and a Globe Hurricane (#V104/466), both made of crystal. The adapter may have been sold with the hurricane because it did not have a separate item number listed in the photo. Also, it seems there is NO pattern name for this item. We have not been able to find a hurricane chimney to fit this adapter yet, but we are still looking. In addition, we purchased these adapters with huge lot of Fostoria Virginia items made during the same manufacturing time period.
This listing is for the candle adapter ONLY and NOT the other items in the our photos. The unusual item is NEW and unmarked with no original labels or stickers. It is heavy molded glass (crystal?) with a PEG insert that will fit into a standard taper candlestick holder. Get creative! Add your own candles and vintage candlesticks!!! THIS IS DEFINITELY A RARE FOSTORIA ITEM!!!
PLEASE READ THESE ADDITIONAL DETAILS: The top side will hold a taper candle, allowing the wider rim to catch drips or just look lovely. It will also hold a PEG votive candle holder for a special effect. Try a pillar candle up to 2" in diameter. A glass hurricane chimney with a 2", 1 5/8", or 1 7/8" fitter may work, but we did not have one available to photograph. In all cases, you will need a candlestick holder of some type. The bottom of the adapter has a 5/16" deep molded "PEG" to sit in the hole of the holder. See my photos for ideas.
For use with tealight candles, photos show with white and a few colors to demonstrate how to use this adapter. Seller recommends using the tealight candle's metal or plastic "cup" that comes with tealight candles due to the adapter "well" being wider than the tealight "cup". If not, the melted wax will spread out and greatly shorten the candle burning time. Candles NOT INCLUDED.
